HBOT in France

HBOT in France operates through a strong hospital-based network — the Médecine hyperbare specialty has a long tradition in French medical education, with chambers at AP-HP Pitié-Salpêtrière (Paris), Marseille, Lyon, Brest and several other CHU hospitals. The commercial wellness market is smaller than in Germany or the UK, with a few private centers in Paris and the south.

Pressures range across the typical spectrum: 1.5 ATA (mild HBOT, mostly the wellness centers), 2.0–2.8 ATA (medical-grade, hospital-based and a few private clinics). Sécurité Sociale reimburses HBOT for specific approved indications — chronic non-healing wounds, decompression sickness, sudden hearing loss, anaerobic infections — when prescribed by a physician. Off-label use (longevity, post-stroke, neurorehab) is private-pay.

Pricing for self-pay: €120–200 per session for medical-grade, €80–130 for mild HBOT. Twenty- and forty-session protocols run €2,500–6,000. The Paris cluster has expanded post-2020 alongside the longevity market; clinics in the 16e and 17e arrondissements have become the main private-pay destinations.

What to ask: chamber type, pressure rating, the operating clinician's specialty (médecine hyperbare diploma is the strongest credential), and whether they handle Sécurité-Sociale-eligible indications (signal of operating maturity).
